The Tigers could have made it a closer game but they stranded 11 baserunners. Cornejo gave up a career-high eight earned runs and 14 hits before getting pulled in the fifth inning. He also walked 2 batters, struck out one, hit a batter, and balked in a run. The rest of the team made the damage worse. Craig Monroe threw a wild throw intended for home plate which let in a run. Monroe is now tied for the lead on the team with 3 errors. Ugueth Urbina proved to be another one of the Tiger's washouts, just like Matt Anderson, in his tigers debut. He came into game with bases loaded and nobody out. He gave up one earned run and two hits, walked two, and struck out two during the game. Even though he didn't have that strong of an impact in his first game with the Tigers, he still has a lot of time to redeem himself (unless the coaches already think he is a washout after that game).

Tigers Record:
6-4

The Tigers were no match for Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays Thursday, losing 11-0. He struck out 4 of the 7 batters he faced in the second inning through the fourth. the Tigers managed to get 8 singles on the afternoon. Once Jason Johnson left the mound, the Jays were ready to pounce on Gary Knotts. Knotts gave up five runs and five walks on the night which probably knocked him out of the race for the fifth spot on the pitching rotation. After being ahead most of the game, the Jays relief pitchers shut them down giving up 3 hits in 6 innings, giving the Tigers a 7-5 loss and a 5-2 record. Kevin Cash doubled 3 times scoring one and knocking in 2 more. Douglass, however, kept toronto in the game with 3 innings of one-hit relief. After a few extra base hits, the Tigers led 2-0 before the Jays ever made an out. Even when Hentegen (the starting pitcher for the Jays) had left the game, his team was already battling back. Eric Hinske started the second inning with a solo shot off Jeremy Bonderman. The Jays added 2 more runs in the third and they stayed the same till the seventh inning. Fernando Vina made 2 errors that came back to haunt the Tigers. The first error came when Vina missed a pop-up off the bat of Chris Woodward. The next batter, Kevin Cash, drilled a ground-rule double to score Woodward. Detroit led by one in the eighth until Frank Catalanotto scored on an error.

The Tigers closed out their opening week with a close one. Craig Monroe's line drive single to left scored Andres Torres in the bottom of the 10th, sending the Tigers to a 6-5 win over the Twins and a 5-1 record. Carlos Guillen drove in Fernando Vina in the bottom of the 7th. Carlos Pena had a walk and a hit with an RBI. Alan Trammell told the press, "The thing about our ballclub is we have a well balanced lineup. Pudge can not carry us. Rondell White can't carry every night either." I think that explains what the Tigers will need to do this year. Everyone of the players will need to step up and play their role on the team in order for them to have a good and productive season.

The Minnesota Twins handed the Tigers their first loss this season Saturday beating them 10-5. Brad Radke became the first Twins pitcher to win a game this year. He retired seven straight batters to start the game which ended with a two run shot by Craig Monroe. Your not really dreaming! The Tigers won their fourth game in a row beating the Twins 10-6. This game was one of the few games that actually sold out at Comerica Park. The Tigers managed to over come a three run deficit. This is the first time the Tigers have gone 4-0 since 1985. Bobby Higginson went 2 for 4 and had four RBI's. Ivan Rodriguez showed pretty well in his first game at home as a Tiger with two singles and a walk. The Tigers starting pitcher, Nate Cornejo, gave up two quick runs in the first inning. This was the first time in my lifetime that I actually heard the Tigers fans cheer like it was game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals for the Redwings. After the game, people honked their cars and yeld out of their windows. This is one of the Tigers best starts ever, but I think they will cool off very soon. The Tigers next game is Saturday at 1:05 at home.

The Detroit Tigers completed the sweep of the Jays Wednesday beating them 6-3. Meanwhile, the Tigers also had their bats going. Eric Munson hit a 2-1 pitch from Pat Hentgen 396 feet into right field for his first homerun of the season and three runs. Blue Jays starting pitcher, Roy Halladay, usually beats the Tigers with less than 100 pitches. Monday night, he threw 111 pitches. The Tigers also play the Blue Jays Tuesday.

The Tigers start the season on Monday. I am looking forward to watching them this year. They actually got some good players that will help them compete. I think they will win about 60-70 games this year. I don't think they will compete for the division(yet). Some of their younger players still need to come up through the minors. In one or two years they should be in contention for the playoffs. Well I can't wait till the Tigers' first game. They can't and must be better than last year and the years before.

The Tigers had a big signing Thursday. (There record is now 9-12). The story starts with Matt Andersons horrible pitching. At the beginning of the preseason, he said he would gain back his old job of being the closing pitcher. He hasn't shown much improvement so far. Anderson might have run out of chances Monday after giving up a huge 2 run slam from Hideki Matsui and another 2 run slam from Tony Clark. Jeremy Bonderman started the game. During the rest of the game, the Tigers used 4 different pitchers. Detroit committed four more errors in their sloppy playing. They now have 40 errors and have given up 30 unearned runs in 17 preseason games. "It's getting old," says Tigers manager Alan Trammell. "We actually pitched kind of well tonight." One of the four errors came from Bobby Higginson who lost a line drive in the lights. Eric Munson misplayed two infield pop-ups which gave the expos the tie in the sixth inning. Omar Infante, once again, bobbled an easy ground ball. In my opinion, Infante should have been down to the minors a long time ago. If they can't even pick up ground balls they shouldn't be in the majors.

The Tigers have won two games in a row thanks to unearned runs. Sparky Anderson and Lou Whitaker are making appearances in the dugout and in the management offices. Allan Trammel and Lou Whitaker were the best double-play team there ever was in the game. I am not surprised that he is there. Along with Kirk Gibson, these three men make very good coaches. But a man in the shadows is a former Tigers coach, Sparky Anderson. Allan Trammel invited Sparky to spring training to help him out with some of the players and some of the team management. They will recruit some good young players that will be good later on in their career. I trust Sparky and Tram in their decisions. With this, I think the Tigers will at least win 20 more games. Detroit will play the Cardinals tuesday and the Mets Wednesday.

The Tigers grabbed an 11-3 loss to the Devil Rays Sunday. This time it was all about the bullpen. Esteban Yan, the starting pitcher for the TIgers Sunday, had a very good showing allowing just one hit in three shutout innings. But after that, the bullpen collapsed. Matt Anderson gave up a 3-run homer in the 7th inning. Nate Robertson gave up 4 hits and 4 runs in the in the 5th. Fernando Rodney left the game after throwing seven pitches because of tendinitis is his right elbow.

After going 5-0-1 in the past six games, the Tigers were back to their old ways again. They lost Saturday to the Montreal Expos 13-6. The Tigers had 4 errors in the first seven innings. By the end of the game, Detroit combined for 7 errors, ( 3 of the errors from Infante)which gave the Expos 6 unearned runs. With another loss in the records, the Tigers are now 6-5-1 in the preseason. But we have to keep in mind that this is the preseason. Most teams are trying their rookies out which is causing much higher scores. Hopefully, the Tigers will play a lot better in the regular season than they did Saturday.

The Detroit Tigers so far have done well in the preseason (knowing what they have done in the other preseasons). With the new aquisitions of Vina, White, Rodriguez, Guillen, Levine, and Johnson the Tigers will be expected to do a lot better than last season and a few seasons before that! I've got a good feeling that Trammel knows what he is doing. I can't wait till opening day!
